County Expands list of Recyclable Materials

 Effective August 1st the Columbia County Solid Waste Department will expand its recycling program to include the following items:

• PLASTIC BOTTLES MARKED #1 THROUGH #7

• MILK & JUICE BOXES • NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES AND CATALOGS

• TELEPHONE AND SOFT COVER BOOKS

• JUNK MAIL AND ENVELOPES

• PAPER OF ALL COLORS

• PAPERBOARD SUCH AS CEREAL AND SHOE BOXES

• CARDBOARD AND BROWN PAPER BAGS

• GLASS BOTTLES & JARS OF ALL COLORS

• ALUMINUM, SUCH A PIE PLATES, TRAYS AND FOILS

• METAL CANS MADE OF ALUMINUM, STEEL OR TIN

ALL ITEMS MUST BE RINSED OR WASHED SO THERE IS NO FOOD RESIDUE.

THIS is good news for those who want to get rid of their household waste without contributing to the overworked landfill. (Milk & Juice boxes, Hooray!)
