Nine bronze wolves will be hidden around Germantown for a scavenger hunt. Watch live foundry pours at Municipal Park, Friday, Nov. 13, 2 to 7 p.m.

Nine bronze wolf sculptures are coming to Germantown. They will be placed around the city for a new community scavenger hunt called Discover Germantown.

Before the hunt starts, the city is holding a kickoff, open to the public, in Municipal Park on Friday, Nov. 13, from 2 to 7 p.m. Master artisans from the Metal Museum in Memphis will pour molten metal on-site.

The city announced the event in a news release on Oct. 6 and on its calendar listing.

What you can see

The city is partnering with the Metal Museum, which is bringing its Mobile Foundry to the park. At the kickoff, according to the city:

  • master artisans will demonstrate metal casting, including live foundry pours
  • the tools, molds and artifacts used to make the original bronze wolves will be on display
  • visitors get a first look at the Discover Germantown project
  • Monkeygrass Mayhem will be serving coffee

You can drop in any time between 2 and 7 p.m. The city suggests bringing a lawn chair or blanket and making an evening of it.

The hands-on activity is full

The kickoff also has a tile-making session, run by the Metal Museum team. Each participant gets a scratch block with a wolf outline already drawn on it, the city said. You add your own details, such as a moon, a landscape, fur or lettering. The team then casts the design in molten aluminum, and you take the finished tile home.

Registration for that session has reached capacity. The city is keeping a waitlist at Germantown-TN.gov/Metal, but joining it does not guarantee a spot.

No registration is needed to watch.

The scavenger hunt

Discover Germantown is meant to get residents and visitors exploring the city and finding “something unexpected along the way,” the city said. It has not yet said where the nine wolves will go or how the hunt will work, and it said more details are coming.

We will add them here when the city publishes them.
