The Germantown Greenway is the city’s main trail: more than 10 miles of a planned 22-mile paved path for walkers, runners and cyclists. It follows the Wolf River from the city’s western border to Farmington Boulevard, and a second section runs between Johnson Road Park and Houston Levee Park. The city plans for it to circle Germantown, linking parks, schools and neighborhoods. Parks and trails are open dawn to dusk, and dogs must be leashed.

Before you go

What you’ll see

The Greenway is also a level one arboretum with more than 25 species of trees, stretching from the Cameron Brown trailhead to the Kimbrough and Wolf River Boulevard trailhead. Interpretive stops along the river section include:

  • Beaver Boondocks, at the western end: a human-scale beaver lodge and signs on beaver engineering
  • Bottomland Glen: a tree stump learning station on trees that survive floods
  • Turtle Bayou: a short boardwalk to a dock where turtles bask, with a telescope
  • River History Plaza: the central information stop, with benches

The current closure

The western boardwalk was removed after it closed in May 2024 for severe structural deterioration, and walkers used the narrow Beaver Loop Trail as a detour. On Aug. 6, 2026, work began to turn that detour into a permanent 10-foot asphalt trail with 2-foot shoulders, under a $214,545 contract the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved in June. The city said the work could take up to 120 days, weather permitting, and that the Greenway cannot be reached from the Memphis side meanwhile (city news).

Nature trails

  • Wolf River Nature Area, 7014 Wolf River Blvd.: a 150-acre river’s-edge reserve with four educational stations, plant displays, two picnic areas, overlooks and restrooms.
  • Riverwoods State Natural Area, Wolf River Boulevard and Kimbrough Road: 21 acres the city manages, with a primitive trail and raised boardwalks.
  • Morgan Woods Park: a 14-acre wooded trail behind Oaklawn Garden and the Farm Park.
