Safety after dark
Sunset on Halloween comes in the early evening, so most trick-or-treating happens in the dark. The city’s own advice for people out on foot before sunrise applies after sunset too:
- Walk facing oncoming traffic where there is no sidewalk.
- Bright clothing alone is hard to see in the dark; add reflective bands or LED clip-on lights, ideally on wrists and ankles where movement catches a driver’s eye.
- Keep headphones off so you can hear cars coming.
Those tips are from the city’s Be Seen, Be Safe notice of Oct. 12. Drivers: slow down in neighborhoods on Saturday evening and watch for children crossing between parked cars.
Going away for the weekend?
The Germantown Police Department offers a vacation home check for residents who will be out of town.
