State report card

Tennessee grades every public school A to F. The department says School Letter Grades give “a snapshot of how each school in the state is performing, including student achievement and academic growth measures for all schools, as well as a measure of college and career readiness just for high schools.”

From the state’s 2024-25 letter grade file, 2025 graduation rate file and 2024-25 ACT file:

Measure Houston High
Overall letter grade, 2024-25 A (score 5 of 5)
Achievement grade A
Academic growth grade A
Growth of the lowest-scoring 25% of students A
College and career readiness grade A
Overall success rate on state tests, 2024-25 62.9%
College and career readiness rate, 2024-25 81.9%
Graduation rate, class of 2025 98.8% (480 of 486 students)
Average ACT composite, 2024-25 24.4 (468 students tested)

The state’s spring 2026 test file has the share of Houston students who met or exceeded expectations on each end-of-course exam: English II 76.2%, Biology 62.9%, Geometry 60.2%, Algebra II 55.2%, English I 54.2% and Algebra I 28.1%. The 2025-26 letter grades have not been published yet.

The State Report Card page for Houston High lists the school as a Reward School, the state’s label for high performance or improvement, and holds the full detail: results by subject, chronic absenteeism and results for each group of students.

Attendance zone and feeder schools

GMSD serves residents of the City of Germantown. Check an address in the school zone locator, which shows the zoned elementary, middle and high school. The district’s registration page says “all elementary and middle school families are zoned to Houston High School,” and asks families to confirm with Student Services.

Students come from Houston Middle and from the middle grades at Riverdale K-8, the two schools the locator returns for sixth through eighth grade.

Students from outside the zone can transfer in through the Honors Academy or Leadership Academy. The school’s academies page says acceptance into either one “allows a student to transfer to Houston High School,” and the district says the academies take students from across Shelby County. Non-resident transfers pay tuition under district policy; the tuition page has the details.

We found no rezoning approved by the Germantown Board of Education that changes this school’s zone.
