State report card

Tennessee grades every public school A to F. The department says School Letter Grades give “a snapshot of how each school in the state is performing, including student achievement and academic growth measures for all schools, as well as a measure of college and career readiness just for high schools.”

From the state’s 2024-25 letter grade file:

Measure Houston Middle
Overall letter grade, 2024-25 C (score 3 of 5)
Achievement grade A
Academic growth grade F
Growth of the lowest-scoring 25% of students F
Overall success rate on state tests, 2024-25 68.6%

The overall C combines the top mark for achievement, how students scored on state tests, with the lowest mark for academic growth, the measure of how much progress students made during the year.

The state’s spring 2026 test file has the share of Houston Middle students who met or exceeded expectations on TCAP: 67.2% in English language arts, 74% in math, 75.2% in science and 76.2% in social studies. More than 95% of the 80 students who took the Algebra I end-of-course exam met or exceeded expectations. The 2025-26 letter grades have not been published yet. The State Report Card page for Houston Middle holds the full detail, including chronic absenteeism and results for each group of students.

Attendance zone and feeder schools

GMSD serves residents of the City of Germantown. Check an address in the school zone locator, which shows the zoned elementary, middle and high school; the district asks families to confirm the result with Student Services.

The locator returns Houston Middle for the Dogwood Elementary, Farmington Elementary and Forest Hill Elementary zones. The Riverdale zone in the west of the city goes to Riverdale K-8 for the middle grades instead. Houston Middle feeds Houston High; the district’s registration page says “all elementary and middle school families are zoned to Houston High School.”

We found no rezoning approved by the Germantown Board of Education that changes this school’s zone.
